Happy New Year!

Where did this last year go? Wow, each year seems to go by faster and faster. Granted, we had a lot of things going on last year. Which makes me think of another thing... Why do we seem to crowd so many things into so little time. Some things of course cannot be helped (moving, having a baby, a new job, etc.), but what about the things that we purposely cram into our lives. Maybe an extra hobby, extra sports for our children, countless school and/or church activities, an extra job for vacation money (or even an identity if you otherwise stay home?). Family lives in the USA seem to be always rushing here, rushing there, doing this, and doing that; and in the process our children get left on the sidelines or dragged along behind us. Hmm... Not exactly what I want for my children. But I'm getting off on a rabbit trail... More on that later.
This new year is starting out busy as well. After finishing what is likely the busiest December of my life (hosting the church teen Christmas party, hosting my mother-in-law's surprise 50th birthday party at which we had 46 people, preparing for and hosting an Emergency Preparedness Seminar, practicing a couple times a week for the church Christmas cantata, and hosting 2 family Christmas celebrations, and... I'm dizzy just writing about it!), I was ready for a quiet January. Alas, that is not to happen. No, instead of picking my way through the pile of books that I have accumulated and teaching my daughter to read herself, I will be packing the books, and the toys, and the dishes, and my mounds of fabric, and... Yes, just 8 months after moving into this lovely, old, way too big house (I never thought that I would say that!), we are moving again. My husband has accepted a new job where he will not have to travel (Woohoo!), and so we are moving to a new location almost 5 hours away. After moving 6 times in the last 6 years, I am getting quite sick of it. Whatever happened to getting married and living in the same house for over 50 years? Although I know that this will not be the last time we move in our lifetime, I hope and pray that it will be at least 2 years before we move again. But God knows.
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you
and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
Even though I'm not exactly thrilled to go through the process of moving again, I'm excited about what God has planned for our family in 2010! And hopefully after all the boxes have been unpacked, I'll finally get to that stack of books! Until then, don't expect to hear much from me. Until the end of January I'll probably still be running around like a chicken with it's head cut off trying to get everything done and all the while reminding myself that I can't be super-mom so I need to slow down...
So have a Happy New Year, everyone! God Bless!
